iPhone 4 and iOS 4.0 In Action

I have just picked up my iPhone 4 and loaded all my apps following the standard process that iTunes takes a user through when a new device is attached. It was a total success and all my data in My Eyes Only, MEO Free and My Eyes Only Photo transferred without a hitch. I use a Mac, and back up regularly. Enough said.
I did not have a copy of My Eyes Only Contacts on the my 3G so I have nothing to report. I’m confident that if iPhone users follow the simple instructions and have synced regularly with iTunes they should have no problems.

Retina Display

As a developer I was concerned that graphics designed for the iPhone prior to the iPhone 4, would not show well on the new phone. I can say that all the graphics for our apps look acceptable. This is a relief because we want to concentrate on great new products and features instead of reworking existing apps. Now we can improve the graphics in the normal course of our new product development.

But I have to add that the Retina display has grown on me and I’m truly amazed at the sharpness of the text and images that are designed for the display. When I show my iPhone to people, they respond with oohs and aahs.

Speed and Memory

Running iOS 4.0 on a 3G was painful. The iPhone 4 is blazing. My Eyes Only Photo decrypts photos in a flash. This is will be a big deal for users of that fantastic app. Beyond the processor intensive encryption, the iPhone 4 is just wonderful to use because it is extremely responsive. Initializing the iPhone 4 will all my music, photos and apps was surprising fast.

Developers are going to be doing some interesting this with all the speed and memory. I know that photo encryption will take advantage of these new attributes of the iPhone 4.
